Image Search Sites

  1. Google Images   This database took first place in the 2001 Search Engine Watch Awards for Best image search engine.  RLG DigiNews, completed a comprehensive test of image search engines with Google coming out on top. [Dec. 2001]
  2. Ditto is a visual search engine.
  3. ImageFinder is a specialized directory from Berkeley. This directory of ten image databases includes one for NASA and one for the Smithsonian Institution.
  4. Picsearch is a search engine for pictures on the web.
  5. The Amazing Picture Machine   This is a database of graphical resources for educators.

Auditory Tools

  1. The Carnegie Mellon Pronouncing Dictionary   Requires a download.
  2. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary allows you to listen to the pronunciations of most words. In the case of multiply accepted usages of a term (e.g., piranha) more than one pronunciation is given. Merriam-Webster wrote the book on pronunciation – literally! See "The Pronunciation Dictionary".
